Portsmouth take £5.6m hit as accounts published for 2023-24
Portsmouth have announced an overall loss of £5.6million for the financial year ending 30 June 2024.
The financial hit, confirmed via the club’s official website [30 December], was expected with the outgoings that came with promotion to the Championship, including infrastructure investment, player and staff bonuses and non-recurring transfer fees.
The key points of the accounts revelation illustrated that £5.4million was spent between 2023 and the summer of 2024 on stadium, training ground and gym improvements.

The Eisners have attempted to create a sustainable future environment for Pompey away from the field for years to come, though in the immediate sense this has come at a cost of the playing squad.
January is a huge month in the transfer market for potential Championship survival as a lot of the infrastructure investment is futile for a period of time if the club were to drop back into League One.
Academy investment is also on the agenda for a lot of supporters, something the hierarchy have reasoned against in favour of other immediate concerns.
Pompey Supporters’ Trust have acknowledged [PST website, 30 December] that the club will be suffering a “hangover” in the Championship with the numbers demanded at the new level, and it remains to be seen how the Blues will go on to fare in the coming months into next summer.
