Abu Kamara sends social media message after Portsmouth rout
Portsmouth title-winning loanee Abu Kamara has sent a social media message following the Blues’ 4-0 win over Swansea City on Wednesday.
Supporters’ ears were perked up following Kamara’s appearance under an Instagram post from goalscorer Paddy Lane (1 January), celebrating the victory with teammates online.
The winger, 21, spent last season on loan at Fratton Park from Norwich City and played in every League One game as Pompey cantered to the title, registering 20 goal contributions before signing for Hull City in a summer move worth up to £4.5million.
Under Lane’s celebratory post, Kamara commented with a smile-with-tears emoji and a red heart, prompting the “bring him home” Blues crowd to emerge.
Portsmouth fans still miss Abu Kamara
The bottom line is however important it is to move on from successful loan players, Portsmouth supporters would still take Abu Kamara back on the coast in a heartbeat.
It was frustratingly understandable why Pompey felt it an uncomfortable fee to part with to rival Hull for the exciting wide player, who has so far failed to score but claimed two assists in 17 Championship outings on Humberside this season.
The Blues have made it clear they are operating on what is essentially a shoestring budget compared to the bulk of their divisional rivals, which does put much of the fanbase on edge about how much the squad will strengthen in January.
Games like the past two at home against Swansea and Coventry City (21 December) are fantastic but cannot paper over any cracks; the away form lately has been dire and consistency is a problem, as is the quota of first-team squad members with adequate experience of this ruthless level.

Kamara provided that superb turn of excitement in League One last season, also a level in which Lane excelled before struggling since the summer – that’s another reason why the Swansea match was so pleasing on the eye.
But January remains a crucial month and even if the likes of Kamara won’t be coming back Pompey’s way, an astute month of recruitment is essential to retaining and building on Championship status.
