Portsmouth transfer news: Update on Harvey Knibbs rumours
Portsmouth are not in the race to sign Reading star Harvey Knibbs this month, according to Andy Moon.
The BBC Radio Solent broadcaster posted on X (6 January) to issue an update on the Reading forward, who had been linked with Pompey alongside fellow Championship sides Derby County and Oxford United [Darren Witcoop, 3 January].
Knibbs, 25, has already hit 10 goals in 23 games across all competitions for the Royals so far this campaign, with Portsmouth having already begun their January business with the signing of Rob Atkinson on loan from Bristol City.
Moon shared on his social media page: “Harvey Knibbs to Pompey”, followed by a red cross emoji to signify this deal would be a non-starter for now.
Portsmouth already busy in January
Portsmouth are already on red alert for possible deals to not only strengthen the squad this month, but also give opportunities elsewhere to players surplus to requirements.
Atkinson, a former teammate of John Mousinho’s, signed early in the window and immediately made his debut as a substitute against Sunderland on Sunday (5 January), impressing in the final quarter of the game with a goal-line block from the hosts’ Eliezer Mayenda.
His importance to the team will be paramount over the coming weeks with injuries and suspensions rocking Pompey, while Knibbs would have been an attacking reinforcement.

It will be intriguing to see how the recruitment in attack pans out at Fratton Park, with many fans content on the forward options Mousinho currently boasts.
There is no doubt, however, that more Championship experience is required in the building and a bloated squad needs trimming as exits are anticipated.
In other Portsmouth news, Mousinho’s recent achievements are given recognition from Sir Alex Ferguson among others.
