Portsmouth in talks to sign Isaac Hayden as Newcastle transfer news emerges

Portsmouth are in talks to sign Isaac Hayden from Newcastle during the winter transfer window, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist reported via X on 8 January that negotiations over a deal that would see the Jamaica international move to Fratton Park are underway.

It is not specified if talks revolve around a loan agreement or a permanent deal, although other Championship clubs are interested in the 29-year-old.

John Mousinho to lure Isaac Hayden to Portsmouth

Pompey have managed to get out of the relegation zone and can steer further clear of the bottom three if they make the most of their two games in hand.

However, with 22 games left to play, John Mousinho will be aware of the battle that lies ahead of him and is, therefore, keen to strengthen his ranks for the second half of the season.

Hayden returned to Newcastle after spending the latter half of last season on loan at QPR but is yet to make an appearance for Eddie Howe’s side this term.

Therefore, the Magpies would likely be happy to move him on during the January transfer window either on loan or permanently.

As for Portsmouth, they would be glad to add Premier League experience to their midfield as they look to avoid relegation this season.

This is certainly one to watch in the coming days as FA Cup action returns in England.
