Portsmouth in hunt to sign ‘next Mark Viduka’ as bids made

Portsmouth are considering a deal to sign Thomas Waddingham from Brisbane Roar this month, according to The News.

The newspaper reported via their website on 9 January that John Mousinho would welcome the 19-year-old‘s signing, although other targets are being prioritised.

Waddinham, 19, has emerged as an option for Pompey, who are on the verge of signing Isaac Hayden, during the ongoing transfer window, but they want someone who can make an instant impact.

This means the teenager may move elsewhere this month, with QPR and Sheffield Wednesday already making bids to sign him.

Porsmouth may miss out on Thomas Waddingham

Waddingham is considered a great prospect, having bagged four goals and an assist in 11 A-League appearances this season.

He is alreayd being dubbed as the “next Mark Viduka” in Australia [ESPN], with former Sunderland ace Thomas Sorensen backing him to follow in the legendary striker’s footsteps.

“Viduka? Hopefully. It would be great for Australian football if he can take that next jump”, Sorensen said on A-Leagues Download.

However, it would be understandable if Portsmouth prioritised other signings as they fight to avoid relegation this season.

Mousinho’s side have managed to move out of the drop zone for the time being and have the oppportunity to move further away if they take advantage of the two games in hand.
