Portsmouth in hunt to sign Devlin despite Hearts contract development
Portsmouth have listed Australian star Cammy Devlin on their January transfer radar, according to Edinburgh News.
The Hearts midfielder, 26, is wanted by both Pompey and MLS outfit New York City FC as of Barry Anderson’s report (9 January).
Pompey are openly in the market for a defensive lynchpin in the middle of the park, following recent links to both Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden (Mike McGrath, 8 January), and Preston North End man Ryan Ledson (Mike Keegan, 9 January).
Devlin, who joined Hearts back in 2021, only signed a contract extension at Tynecastle four months ago.
Portsmouth to swoop for another Aussie star?
Should Portsmouth land their latest reported target, it would mean not just a second Devlin through the door, but another Australian international.
Hearts’ Devlin has earned four Socceroos caps to date, and despite not featuring was called up for the final 26-man World Cup squad in Qatar in 2022.
With Kusini Yengi and Jacob Farrell still at Fratton Park, it looks as if Sammy Silvera’s loan will be cut short. Alex Robertson opted for a move to Cardiff City following his Pompey loan last season, with a revolving door of Australian talent in PO4.

The Blues are under pressure from supporters to bring in players ready to compete in the Championship rather than projects for the future, with the club’s second-tier place under heavy threat.
Pompey focus on the FA Cup third round trip to Wycombe Wanderers on Friday night at Adams Park (10 January).
In other Portsmouth news, Elias Sorensen’s sale can open up new avenues for the Blues.
