Portsmouth only club named in hunt to sign Preston ace Ryan Ledson

Portsmouth are one of several Championship clubs looking to sign Preston North End star Ryan Ledson in January, according to Mike Keegan.

The Daily Mail journalist posted on his X account (9 January) the news on the Preston midfielder, naming Pompey as one of the interested sides this month.

Ledson, 27, has been a regular since arriving at Deepdale in 2018 and was another player who crossed paths with John Mousinho at Oxford United, along with the likes of Josh Murphy and Rob Atkinson.

Keegan shared: “Preston midfielder Ryan Ledson is attracting interest from four clubs. Believe Portsmouth are one. Contract is up at the end of the season.”

Portsmouth chase Ledson on cut-price deal

With Ledson having fewer than six months left on his Preston contract and having been at the club for what will total seven years, he could be seeking a fresh challenge and his side likewise.

The midfielder does have a young family based in the North West, but could find the contract security at Portsmouth is more efficient in the long run.

Pompey have a first-choice midfield arsenal of Freddie Potts and Andre Dozzell, with captain Marlon Pack ushered back into the defensive line of late.

Owen Moxon and Abdoulaye Kamara are also at the club though a deal for Ledson this month could push one out the door on loan. Tom Lowery and Ben Stevenson, both midfielders, have been unable to play since the end of August due to being cut from the EFL squad.

It looks apparent that the Blues are also chasing a deal for defensive midfielder Isaac Hayden from Newcastle United.

In other Portsmouth news, a real setback in defence yet again for an injury-ravaged Blues side.
