Portsmouth Women confirm FA Cup postponement v Blackburn

Portsmouth Women have confirmed their FA Cup tie at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Pompey Women shared the news on Saturday, that the contest on 12 January – which would have been the first for Jay Sadler’s side in four weeks – has fallen victim to the sub-zero temperatures.

The Blues last played on 15 December, earning a creditable 2-2 draw away at Sunderland, who were challenging for promotion to the WSL last season.

A new date will be confirmed soon.

Portsmouth Women keen to return after long wait

Portsmouth will be incredibly frustrated with the outcome of pitch inspections at Blackburn but will at least be relieved they haven’t made the entire trip before finding out their fate.

This was the situation that faced Pompey’s men back in November as they saw a waterlogged pitch put paid to their Championship contest at Ewood Park, which will now be played this Wednesday (15 January).

Having struggled all season long with the adaptation to full-time football and facing some very established professional women’s outfits, some lessons were quickly being learned recently.

The 2-2 draw at Eppleton against Sunderland was an excellent result considering, and the Blues now move on in search of putting a decent run together.

With the battle for survival on, their break in the cup against same-league opponents will have to wait.
