Isaac Hayden reveals why he joined Portsmouth in Jamaica admission
Isaac Hayden has missed the opportunity to be part of “something meaningful”, which is why he made a January move to Portsmouth.
The 29-year-old completed a loan switch from Newcastle United until the end of the season on Friday (10 January), seeking more regular game time at Fratton Park.
Speaking to the official Portsmouth FC channels (12 January), Hayden cited a recent international trip with the Jamaica side as a motivation to work towards achieving a common aim and playing as much as possible.
“[I want to] help contribute to something meaningful, and I got that taster back when I went away with Jamaica, pushing for a win in the [CONCACAF] quarter-finals,” Hayden recalled.
“That didn’t end up happening, but just to be part of a group pushing in the same direction to achieve a goal, that was nice.
“I’m here to play as many games as possible, and give as much experience and knowhow as I can to the group and the staff.”
Portsmouth already active in transfer market
Slowly but surely, Championship clubs are starting to get January business done, but Portsmouth already have two loan signings and a sale in the bag.
Consequently, right now, Pompey are in the green in terms of profit – but strengthening the squad at any realistic cost has to prevail.
The Blues are under pressure from supporters to invest in the playing side over the course of this month, with the relegation flirt coming on too strongly for the liking of most.
Hayden joins Rob Atkinson in the first-team squad as January recruits, with Pompey already having been credited with interest in a number of additional players.
More will also depart, with Elias Sorensen already having left for Norwegian side Valerenga after just five months at Fratton Park.
In other Portsmouth news, Conor Shaughnessy’s return cannot come quickly enough as he gets set for full training.
