Portsmouth eye Derby County winger in latest January transfer swoop
Portsmouth are looking at attempting a loan deal for Derby County winger Corey Blackett-Taylor, according to Theo Chandler.
The EFL journalist shared on X (11 January) that an already busy Pompey are one of several clubs interested in a temporary move for Blackett-Taylor, 27, who has played just nine times in the Championship this season.
It is understood, however, that Derby are hesitant over loaning to a fellow club looking to stay in the second tier, putting an obstacle in the way of the efforts of both Pompey and Oxford United; John Mousinho is keen to strengthen the depth of his squad.
“Believe Portsmouth and Oxford are pursuing loan moves for Derby County winger Corey Blackett-Taylor this window,” Chandler posted.
“Derby are willing to allow the winger to depart this month however don’t want to loan to relegation rivals. League One clubs also monitoring.”
Portsmouth want Corey Blackett-Taylor from Derby
Blackett-Taylor carries a lot of lower league experience but has been a sporadic player in the Championship.
The former Aston Villa product has played most of his football for Charlton Athletic, who he left for Derby initially on loan in January last year.
The wide player scored nine goals in 25 games for the Addicks but failed to net for the Rams, and could himself be looking for a fresh start with a Blues side seeking a certain type of winger.
Mousinho has wide options but a direct pacy dynamic is potentially what he is missing, with Blackett-Taylor identified as a potential addition to provide it.
Some Portsmouth fans may be hesitant over yet another loan deal – especially for a player who has not played consistent Championship football – but it could shape up well for Mousinho if he can get his man.
