Portsmouth make Christian Saydee exit decision at Fratton Park

Christian Saydee could leave Portsmouth this month if the club are able to adequately replace him, according to Darren Witcoop.

The journalist shared on X (13 January) that League One clubs have been monitoring the forward, who has struggled for game time in the Championship with Pompey.

The Blues are expected to remain active throughout the month’s transfer market, having already signed two players on loan and sold striker Elias Sorensen.

“Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee is attracting interest from League One clubs,” Witcoop shared.

“Saydee would only leave Fratton Park if a replacement is found. Pompey do expect a number of exits this month.”

Portsmouth not ruling out Christian Saydee exit

It appears almost every player at Portsmouth has their price this month – but for fringe players like Saydee, it could be beneficial for them to kickstart their career further afield.

Saydee is a likeable player at Fratton Park among both his teammates and the supporters, and brings a physical presence in attack that is currently lacking elsewhere in the squad.

The 22-year-old played 90 minutes in the FA Cup defeat by Wycombe Wanderers on Friday (10 January) as John Mousinho rotated several of his team, but it was his first start since 25 October against Sheffield Wednesday.

Saydee was higher in the pecking order before Colby Bishop’s return in November, but has now started just eight of his 20 league appearances this campaign, scoring both of his two goals away at Middlesbrough on 24 August.

With Sorensen already having departed after just five months at Fratton, Pompey will ensure that to cut Saydee lose, it is a beneficial move for both the club and the player.
