Portsmouth move for Derby County ace not so straightforward – Don Goodman
Don Goodman believes Corey Blackett-Taylor’s proposed move to Portsmouth is not “as straightforward” as it seems on paper.
Portsmouth have been linked with a swoop for Derby County’s Blackett-Taylor this month [Theo Chandler] in a bid to strengthen the level of depth in their squad.
Goodman previously urged Pompey to be creative in January and, when speaking exclusively to Pompey News, he explained how the lack of playing time isn’t necessarily a factor when deciding if it would be a good move.
“Sometimes it’s not as straightforward as that,” explained Goodman. “Sometimes it could be that he would be more suited to the way Portsmouth play than he was to the way Derby play. It could be as simple as that.
“Or it could be that you look at it in a negative sense and say, hang on a minute, he can’t get a game at Derby, why are we bringing him in, you know? But he may be the kind of player that Portsmouth don’t currently have. But I think he’s quite athletic, isn’t he?
“So maybe that is one of the reasons that he would be brought in for that athleticism, really, that is possibly lacking in parts of the Portsmouth team.
Portsmouth could do with Blackett-Taylor’s athleticism
Ultimately, the driving point of the transfer window is to get the squad into a position where it is capable of avoiding relegation and so far they have achieved that with the recent signing of Isaac Hayden and Rob Atkinson.

His pace and ability to get up and down the pitch will be invaluable to whichever team he ends up at and, should that be Portsmouth, they’d be getting a player capable of pushing for a starting place.
There is still plenty of work to be done behind the scenes but there can be very few concerns about their ambitions given the good start to the window.
In other Portsmouth news, Pompey will avoid relegation under one condition.
