Mousinho reveals crushing injury blow for Portsmouth, surgery needed
Portsmouth are left reeling after John Mousinho revealed Jacob Farrell needs surgery which will end his season, according to Fournilwrittenalloverit.
The Pompey content creator posted on X (13 January) to reinforce the news delivered by the head coach, which sees the Australian ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
It comes after news arrived last week that Farrell had re-injured his knee, which has plagued him to the extent he has appeared just once since joining Pompey, back in September against Sheffield United.
Fournil shared: “John Mousinho confirming this afternoon Jacob Farrell is to undergo surgery and his season is over.”
Jacob Farrell finds luck out at Portsmouth yet again
Farrell and Portsmouth will be ensuring the 22-year-old has a strong support network around him, having been unable to get going since making the move from Australia.
Having essentially ‘completed’ A-League football – winning the title twice with Central Coast Mariners – the left-back elected to move to the Championship, but has been able to try his hand just once.
Connor Ogilvie has steadily improved this season as he has adjusted to the level for the first time, but has remained inconsistent – and as it stands, he has no real competition with Farrell’s continued absence unless right-back Zak Swanson was shifted over to the left-hand side.
Farrell impressed in his sole outing against promotion-chasing Sheffield United, but now faces a fresh period of rehabilitation before returning to the pitch.
The risk with new arrivals who are unable to shake off injuries is they become forgotten by the supporters and the club themselves move on without them as they look to progress, so Farrell will remain determined he can still become a memorable player at Fratton Park.
