Don Goodman makes Portsmouth transfer admission after Hayden, Atkinson deals

Don Goodman has hailed the signings of Isaac Hayden and Rob Atkinson as Portsmouth aim to avoid relegation from the Championship, but believes they still need more.

Pompey have endured a mixed first season back in the Championship, where the ultimate goal is to avoid relegation back to the third tier.

January was pinpointed as a potential deciding factor in their survival hopes, and the signings of Hayden and Atkinson will go a long way to achieving that, with Goodman especially impressed with the latter when speaking exclusively to Pompey News.

“To me, defence was the area of the pitch when I saw Portsmouth that they simply had to improve,” explained Goodman.

“They’re shipping too many goals. So I would hope that the recruitment in that defensive area hasn’t ended there. I still think they probably need a little bit more.

“The two lads do boast an enormous amount of experience, which can’t be underestimated, particularly when you’re in a relegation scrap, which clearly Portsmouth are.”

Portsmouth need to remain active in transfer window

Fortunately, it appears Pompey are looking to do just that having been linked with a move for Corey Blackett-Taylor [Theo Chandler], while having reportedly agreed a deal to sign Thomas Waddingham [Mike McGrath], a striker from Brisbane Roar.

If Portsmouth can add that extra bit of quality, their chance of avoiding relegation go up tenfold and it would be a huge boost for the club.

John Mousinho is doing an excellent job as it stands but the board must back him if they are to achieve success in this campaign.
