Portsmouth hit by added injury blow as Paddy Lane learns fate

Paddy Lane is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury in another sickening blow for Portsmouth, according to Andy Moon.

The BBC Radio Solent broadcaster posted on X (18 January) to reveal the crushing injury news, with Lane having missed the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at Fratton Park on Saturday.

The Northern Irish international, 23, started the previous five games in all competitions and scored against Swansea City on 1 January, but was withdrawn at half-time against Blackburn Rovers last Wednesday (15 January) – John Mousinho revealing he was on crutches following the final whistle.

Moon shared: “Pompey winger Paddy Lane likely out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.”

Portsmouth suffer immense Paddy Lane blow

Portsmouth have endured a lengthy list of injury problems this season which has utterly plagued the club’s attempts to build a consistent run.

It has usually tended to rear itself on the road with a number of poor results, despite Pompey’s home form drastically improving in the past couple of months – continuing with an excellent win over Boro at the weekend.

Lane scored 12 goals in League One last season as he was one of a few to lead the way in an outstanding campaign in blue.

There were high hopes for him in the Championship, and despite starting slowly to adapt, he began to improve.

It is a cruel blow to the winger’s own progress as well as that of Mousinho’s options, with January reinforcements now even more integral than they previously had been.

The Blues do not have much time to enjoy the comeback win on Saturday, as they return to PO4 this Wednesday (22 January) against Stoke City under the lights.
