Portsmouth need another ‘big signing’ before transfer deadline – Ian Darke
Portsmouth must secure another “big signing” during this transfer window, according to Ian Darke.
The TV commentator and Blues fan admitted signing Isaac Hayden on loan from Newcastle was a smart move ahead of Championship competition, but there remains significant work to be done.
Pompey currently sit third-bottom of the Championship, albeit with a game in hand on their survival rivals, having signed both Hayden and Rob Atkinson on loan this month so far.
“You’d like to think the owners will acknowledge how hard the club have worked to get back to this level, and that at least one more big signing can be brought in to help stay there,” Darke exclusively told Pompey News.
“They did well to get Hayden, who I’d have thought two or three clubs would’ve been in for to strengthen their midfield.”
Portsmouth to make another big signing
The universal belief among Portsmouth fans that the squad must be strengthened for the battle ahead is coupled with the appreciation for John Mousinho for getting what he has done out of his current crop.
Pompey and their hierarchy have been criticised for not digging deeply enough into the transfer kitty, with less than £5million spent following promotion despite 14 new arrivals coming through the door.

Mousinho this week celebrated two years in his managerial role at Fratton Park, with the head coach now in need of reinforcements to help keep the club where he has steered them.
