Portsmouth stance on Freddie Potts revealed as West Ham consider recall
Portsmouth remain hopeful Freddie Potts will stay at Fratton Park until the end of the season, according to Andy Moon.
The BBC Radio Solent broadcaster posted on X after reports that parent club West Ham United are potentially looking to recall Potts early (ExWHUemployee, 21 January).
The 21-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for John Mousinho and has demonstrated his capabilities at Championship level, following a successful loan with Wycombe last term.
Portsmouth transfer update on Freddie Potts
If West Ham recall Potts halfway through their disastrous season in the Premier League – given how much they invested into the squad in the summer – it would be even more troublesome for Portsmouth.
Potts is up there with Callum Lang as one of the outstanding performers in a tough Championship campaign, excelling in midfield at his young age in his first experience of the level.
Pompey are crying out for more Championship experience in the squad, but Potts does at least provide proof that there can be players acquired through the loan system who can benefit a squad.
The downside, of course, is that season-long loans more often than not have a recall clause, and it would become even more frustrating if Pompey lose Potts only for him to sit on the bench under Graham Potter.
The Blues have so far signed Isaac Hayden and Rob Atkinson on loan until the end of the season, while Elias Sorensen has departed for Norway as further transfer dealings brew behind the scenes.
