Lang makes honest Portsmouth attitude admission ahead of West Brom trip

Callum Lang has offered an honest assessment of the away form at Portsmouth ahead of the trip to West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Blues’ leading scorer – who moved into double figures with his goal against Stoke City on Wednesday night (22 January) has discussed the additional challenges to playing on the road before Pompey visit The Hawthorns on Saturday (25 January).

John Mousinho’s side have produced promotion-level performances at home, winning five from their last six, but have failed to register a league point on the road since November.

“We need to keep it up at home, but the away form is something we’re obviously needing to change – we all know it hasn’t been good enough,” Lang told BBC Radio Solent’s Andy Moon (23 January).

“We have to go to West Brom with the same attitude as we do at home; stay in the game a bit longer and we want to put that right against West Brom.

“We’re travelling there with everyone doing everything in their power to give ourselves the best chance. Being ruthless in a full press is harder to do away from home, but we’re going to stick with it.”

Portsmouth would make statement with win at West Brom

Portsmouth can make the rest of the Championship notice with a victory at West Brom on Saturday, despite the dismal days on their travels in the past few months.

There have been some impressive results bandied around the league lately and in the unpredictable nature of the second tier in which anyone can beat anyone, Pompey will be quietly confident.

Tony Mowbray is now back at The Hawthorns and despite their defeat at Middlesbrough in midweek, his Baggies side will be of full belief they can get the job done at home.

The previous meeting between the two sides at Fratton Park went entirely Albion’s way during a period the Blues were really struggling to adapt to the level; the West Midlands outfit travelled home with a 3-0 win.

New signing Thomas Waddingham could be included in the matchday squad for the trip to The Hawthorns, having completed his move from Brisbane Roar this week to add to Pompey’s burgeoning Australian contingent.
