West Ham barge in on Portsmouth bid to sign Celtic ace – Sky Sports

Portsmouth look set to miss out on Daniel Cummings with the Celtic striker looking likelier to join West Ham United, according to Anthony Joseph.

Joseph reported on X (1 February) that the Hammers are seeking a pre-contract agreement with the forward, who is out of contract in Glasgow this summer.

Pompey were hopeful of a deal as they look hard to strengthen their squad but the potential is now diminishing after the Premier League interest was escalated.

“West Ham are in talks to sign Celtic striker Daniel Cummings on a pre-contract agreement,” Joseph said.

“Sky Sports revealed last week that Cummings had been in talks with Portsmouth, but West Ham look to be leading the race now.”

West Ham United look to beat Portsmouth to Cummings

Portsmouth know they will struggle to compete with any Premier League side when it comes to signing players, and Cummings may be a bridge too far.

Pompey have however secured deals for Cohen Bramall and Adil Aouchiche in the last 24 hours, with the former included in the squad to face Burnley at Fratton Park (1 February).

Cummings, 18, has been a prolific striker for the Celtic ‘B’ team, scoring 32 competitive goals in 43 games as English clubs circle.

Celtic’s dominance in Scotland and resources to sign excellent attacking talent means it would be a while before Cummings can stake a regular claim in the first team, and Pompey want another goalscorer.

It remains to be seen if there are anymore incomings before Monday’s deadline (3 February).
