Mark O’Mahony fitness update emerges ahead of Portsmouth v Sheffield United

Mark O’Mahony could be available for selection for Portsmouth for their game against Sheffield United, according to Andrew Moon.

The striker picked up an oblique injury back in November in his side’s 2-2 draw against Swansea City which has kept him out ever since.

Before having to face a period on the sidelines, the 20-year-old, who is on loan from Brighton, had scored two goals in nine appearances.

Moon reported via X (5 February): “Portsmouth striker Mark O’Mahony is back in full training and could even feature against Sheffield United on Saturday.”

Mark O’Mahony set for Portsmouth return

Although the 20-year-old didn’t have the most amount of time to make an impact in his season before getting injured, two goals in his nine appearances suggests to supporters that there is a player with the ability to contribute there.

Therefore, John Mousinho will be glad to have his young striker return as his side look to avoid relegation back to League One.

Pompey currently sit 20th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone meaning there is plenty of work to be done to help decide their fate this term.

Although the South Coast side have two defeats in their last three games, they did gain a point against Burnley on Saturday (1 February) which could provide the side with some momentum as they prepare to face Sheffield United.

It will no doubt be a tough game against the side who sit third in the table, but with O’Mahony potentially returning for Saturday’s (8 February) game, the manager will certainly be glad to have the reinforcements as his side try to get a result.
