Portsmouth fans react to ‘unsettling’ John Mousinho update – ‘Oh dear’
Portsmouth fans have been rocked by further injury concerns despite their side having won three games on the bounce in the Championship.
The Blues suffered potential blows during Saturday’s 2-1 win over QPR at Fratton Park (22 February), as Hayden Matthews and Rob Atkinson left the ground injured.
Isaac Hayden and Zak Swanson were also both replaced on the hour mark as precautions, as the injury list among Mousinho’s squad remains in double figures.

Portsmouth fans worry after Mousinho update
Portsmouth supporters have taken to social media to air their views following an update from Andy Moon of BBC Radio Solent (26 February).
The Pompey journalist and commentator posted on X to reveal Mousinho refused to issue an injury update ahead of Saturday’s trip to Luton Town (1 March).
It now remains doubtful whether all or any of the aforementioned quartet will feature at Kenilworth Road, as well as doubts which remain over Kusini Yengi, Mark O’Mahony and Freddie Potts.
Moon shared: “Pompey head coach John Mousinho has declined to provide an injury update at his weekly press conference.
“Says we’ll know when we see the starting XI on Saturday.”
Mousinho could surprise us all
While many are understandably wracked with worry ahead of the weekend in the fear that literally over half the first-choice starting XI and most of the bench are missing, some also believe it is a smokescreen.
POS | Championship table 2024-25 | PLD | PTS |
17 | Portsmouth | 34 | 39 |
18 | Oxford | 34 | 38 |
19 | Cardiff | 34 | 36 |
20 | Stoke | 34 | 35 |
21 | Hull | 34 | 33 |
22 | Plymouth | 34 | 30 |
23 | Derby | 34 | 29 |
24 | Luton | 34 | 28 |
Mousinho is wise to keep his cards close to his chest and not offer Luton any kind of potentially needless information to give away.
The Hatters will have their work cut out attempting to decipher how the Blues will shape up on Saturday, especially as the travelling supporters will be none the wiser, either.
Mousinho and his staff themselves may not fully yet know the extent of some of the players’ issues which could tilt either way ahead of the weekend.
We could be set for an XI packed with firepower; we could head to Luton with half of Sam Hudson’s Under-18 scholars in tow. All eyes on the teamsheet Saturday.
