Liverpool response shared after what’s happened with Kaide Gordon at Portsmouth
Portsmouth’s persistent action in the loan market in the transfer window has left the club in a sticky situation, not least when it comes to Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon.
John Mousinho was keen to make additions to his side as Pompey look to save themselves from relegation to League One.
However, having six loanees has caused complication, with only five of those allowed to be named in a matchday squad.

Liverpool deliver Kaide Gordon verdict
Portsmouth have started to pick up some better results and have climbed to 17th in the Championship table as a result, suggesting new faces at Fratton Park have made a difference.
One man that was brought in during the winter window was Gordon of Liverpool, looking to get some regular minutes and develop his game.
However, the 20-year-old has made just two league appearances so far since his move to South Coast and is not really getting the opportunity for minutes.
Nevertheless, Pompey have assured supporters that all parties are happy with the current situation.
When asked in a fans’ conference last week, the minutes for which were released on Tuesday (4 March), if having too many loanees could affect relationships with the parent clubs, sporting director Rich Hughes put any worries to rest.
Hughes said: “No. We spoke to the parent clubs before making our sixth loan signing and explained the situation. They were very positive – they don’t want their players being cosseted.
“There’s now a scenario where one player won’t make the matchday squad, so they’ve got to be good enough to earn a place.
“That’s the mentality they need to break into their first team squad when back with their parent club.”

Liverpool gem Gordon could still be impactful for Portsmouth
It has certainly been a slow start to life on the South Coast for Gordon, with very limited minutes under his belt so far.
However, on Saturday (1 March), the youngster came on at half-time to replace Matt Ritchie and put in a good display against Luton Town, despite Portsmouth losing the game 1-0.
Gordon showed his ability to get forward and try to affect things happening at the top end, as well as his ability to track back and be useful defensively.
The winger spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Norwich City, where he was given more playing minutes.
Club | Games |
Norwich City | 10 |
Portsmouth | 2 |
Although the loanee situation isn’t typical for everyone, as Hughes points out, it does give the players the reality of having to perform to their best levels in order to earn their places in the side, just like they would be required to do at their parent club.
The Reds will no doubt be hoping that this is the start of something special for Gordon now and that he can really kick on to earn more minutes for Portsmouth.
