EFL make John Mousinho announcement ahead of Portsmouth v Leeds United
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has been brought into the limelight after the performances his team have put in over the last month or so.
Pompey were in real danger of relegation in January, but they’ve now managed to turn things around and look to be well on their way to Championship survival.
Some of their players have found themselves in their best form of the season so far, with wins coming against teams such as QPR and Cardiff City over the last couple of weeks.
So, it’s not all that much of a surprise to see the EFL making an announcement about Mousinho ahead of their upcoming game against Leeds United on Sunday.

Mousinho nominated for Championship Manager of the Month
Pompey have been in some impressive form over the last month or so, despite their 1-0 defeat against Luton Town last weekend.
Portsmouth are now on 39 points and have an eight-point gap between themselves and the drop zone which, with 11 games remaining, feels like a fairly solid margin.
Position | Team | Points |
17th | Portsmouth | 39 |
18th | Oxford United | 38 |
19th | Hull City | 36 |
20th | Stoke City | 36 |
21st | Cardiff City | 36 |
22nd | Luton Town | 31 |
As a result of the recent upturn in form, the EFL have nominated Mousinho as a candidate for February’s Championship Manager of the Month.
Daniel Farke, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker are the other three names who are competing for the award, with each of their teams also putting in impressive performances throughout February.

Portsmouth need to be at their best against Leeds United
This weekend, Mousinho’s men are set to face one of their toughest challenges yet with their next game coming against league leaders Leeds.
The Whites have been the most dominant team in the second tier this season, with players such as Dan James and Manor Solomon being among the best in the division.
While nobody expects Portsmouth to leave Fratton Park with all three points, as long as they can re-find their form from before their last game against Luton, they should be able to put up a solid fight.
Indeed, only time will tell what the future holds, but as long as they put in as much effort as possible, that’s all that fans can ask for.
At the end of the day, before the superb run of form in February, nobody really expected Pompey to be this far clear of the bottom three.
