John Mousinho axes midfielder – Portsmouth predicted XI v Plymouth
John Mousinho could make one change to his Portsmouth side as they gear up to face Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday.
Pompey are coming off the back of a shock 1-0 win over Championship leaders Leeds United and will be looking to extend their recent purple patch of form.
Thanks to their win at Fratton Park over the weekend, Mousinho’s men now have a lot less riding on the clash on the face of it.
But in Plymouth’s case, they’re currently rock bottom of the second-tier table and are on the road towards relegation.

Mousinho to axe Adil Aouchiche v Plymouth
After their win over Leeds on Sunday, Portsmouth will be going into the clash with plenty of momentum.
However, due to the stellar performance they put on last time out, it’s unlikely that Mousinho will choose to change all that much in his team.
In between the sticks will no doubt be Nicolas Schmid, who has been in decent form recently, and it’s unlikely that Mousinho would choose to drop him.
The back four is also set to stay the same with Zak Swanson and Connor Ogilvie taking up the full-back roles, with Marlon Pack and Regan Poole making up the back four.
However, the midfield is where we’re likely to see the one and only change to Portsmouth’s starting XI.
Freddie Potts and Andre Dozzell will be the two holding midfielders, while Adil Aouchiche could be replaced by Terry Devlin.
The on-loan Sunderland ace took a bit of a knock against Leeds on Sunday and could end up being left out of the team as a result.
On the wings will be Matt Ritchie and Player of the Month nominee Jacob Murphy – the duo have been two of Pompey’s best players this term and will no doubt be called upon to create more chances up top.
Last but not least, leading the line will be Colby Bishop. The number nine has been Portsmouth’s first choice for most of the season and will be looking to add some more goals to his record.

Portsmouth can build on Leeds win against Plymouth
Before the season kicked off, many expected Portsmouth to be one of the Championship teams to be fighting against relegation.
And, up until a month or so ago, things seemed to be headed that way. However, they’ve won four of their last five second-tier games and they’re well on course to stay in the Championship.
Team | Position | Points |
Portsmouth | 17th | 42 |
Oxford United | 18th | 39 |
Hull City | 19th | 37 |
Stoke City | 20th | 36 |
Cardiff City | 21st | 36 |
Derby County | 22nd | 32 |
At the moment, 10 points currently separate them from 22nd-placed Derby County and on current form, that number could be easily increased by Thursday.
Football is an ever-changing sport, but on paper, Pompey should have far too much quality for the Pilgrims to contend with.
