Portsmouth, Leeds final positions predicted by supercomputer after Fratton Park shock

Portsmouth handed a shock 1-0 defeat to league leaders Leeds United at Fratton Park in a result that had an impact at both ends of the Championship.

Leeds travelled to Portsmouth on Sunday for a lunchtime kick-off at Fratton Park with an expectation to grab all three points on the road.

What ensued was a shock as Colby Bishop’s goal and Nicolas Schmid’s heroics stunned Leeds. The game was decided by Bishop’s brilliantly taken goal in the 61st minute.

Daniel Farke’s men did not execute their chances and paid the price, whereas John Mousinho’s men were clinical when presented with a chance.

Leeds had several chances to score but goalkeeper Schmid made sure that Leeds’ scoreline remained at nil at Fratton Park.

With the dreadful loss to Pompey, the race for automatic Premier League promotion has been blown wide open.

Portsmouth and Leeds final positions predicted

The loss has dented Leeds‘ hopes to a certain extent but they remain in control as the league leaders for now. However, their lead of three-points at the top has been diminished to zero as Sheffield United won their match Preston North End.

Leeds and the Blades are now level on 76 points but Farke’s men have a superior goal difference, which is why they have kept hold of the first position.

Burnley are not too far behind as they sit in third with 74 points, waiting to pounce on Sheffield United and Leeds’ mistakes.

Given the surprising turn of events at Fratton Park on Sunday, Opta’s supercomputer has predicted the final positions of Leeds and Portsmouth.

Despite Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Pompey, the supercomputer predicts the Whites clinching the Championship title with 96 points and securing automatic Premier League promotion in the process.

The supercomputer also predicts that Farke’s side have a 64.18-per-cent chance of winning the league, compared to second-placed Sheffield United with a 20.58-per-cent likelihood.

For Portsmouth, the supercomputer predicts a 17th-place finish with 54 points. After their recent impressive run of form that has seen them pick up four wins out of the last five games, Pompey have just a 0.52-per-cent chance of getting relegated.

Mousinho guiding Portsmouth to Championship safety

At one point in the season, it looked like the South Coast team would be heading to the League One. After 18 games in the second division, Portsmouth were struggling in 24th place with just 13 points.

It took a special effort from Mousinho and his side to engineer themselves out of the drop zone. A staggering run of four wins in the last five games and some decent results before have seen Pompey rise in the table and make it to the 17th position.

Portsmouth are now 10 points clear of the relegation zone and there is growing confidence amongst the squad that they can stay afloat in the Championship for next season.
