Portsmouth v Plymouth Argyle result predicted by supercomputer

Portsmouth are gearing themselves up to face Plymouth Argyle in their Championship clash on Wednesday.

Pompey are set to welcome the Pilgrims to Fratton Park in a game which would have had a lot riding on it for both teams had John Mousinho’s men not beaten Leeds United 1-0 last time out.

Thanks to that win, Portsmouth are now 10 points clear of the drop zone and look to be on the right track towards retaining their Championship status.

Plymouth, on the other hand, are in the belly of the beast with the club sitting at rock bottom of the second-tier table on 30 points.

Portsmouth favourites to beat Plymouth

Not only do Mousinho’s men have home advantage on Wednesday, but they’re also in their best form of the campaign.

In the last five Championship games that Pompey have played, they’ve won four of them with their only defeat coming at the hands of Luton last week.

The Championship table as it stands.

As per the latest predictions from Opta’s supercomputer (10 March), Portsmouth have a 54.1 per cent chance of coming out on top, with Miron Muslic’s men only having a 22.3 per cent chance of leaving Fratton Park victorious.

The remaining 23.6 per cent goes towards a draw being the most likely outcome of the clash.

Portsmouth now seem safe from Championship relegation

It’s hard to fathom how a team with one of the lowest budgets in the second tier have got as far away from the bottom three as Portsmouth have.

Before their recent purple patch of form, most people expected Mousinho’s men to go straight back down into League One.

However, they’ve stood strong and have more than proven that they deserve to be where they are in the league table.

If they do manage to get one over Muslic’s men on Wednesday as they’re expected to, it’s hard to see how they’d end up dropping anywhere near the bottom three before the end of the campaign.

Which, to be quite frank, is a remarkable feat for them to have achieved, especially with the summer window they endured.

They’ve been underdogs since the season first kicked off, and now we’re into the latter stages of it, the stars seem to be aligning for Portsmouth to have another season in the second tier.
