Regan Poole admits Portsmouth are ‘not happy’ as big news emerges

Portsmouth fans are on cloud nine after Fratton Park roared on their team to victory over the Championship leaders at the weekend.

The win over Leeds United put Portsmouth 10 points above the relegation zone before the midweek round of fixtures kicked off, the Blues straight back in Fratton action against Plymouth Argyle (12 March).

It was also a landmark occasion to keep a clean sheet against the league’s most potent attack with a patched-up defence as John Mousinho navigates a long list of injuries, with Regan Poole now the first-choice centre-half on the teamsheet.

Poole reveals Portsmouth ‘not happy’ amid contract news

A superb past few days in PO4 gets even better, as Poole becomes the latest Blues man to sign a new contract at Fratton Park.

Colby Bishop and Terry Devlin have also penned new Portsmouth terms lately, and now Poole has extended his deal until 2027.

In his in-house interview with Portsmouth FC on X (11 March), Poole did however admit the ambitions of Pompey are such that they are “not happy” just to be 17th in the Championship table.

“My aim is to stay fit, to play as many games as I can for this club and climb the table,” the Welsh defender outlined.

“We’re not happy with where we are now. We believe we can definitely push on higher.

“I think our performances at Fratton have really stepped up. When we play, we believe we can beat anyone. We don’t just want to survive next season, we want to be as high as possible.”

Plymouth test next for Poole and Pompey

While riding the crest of the Leeds win wave, Portsmouth must ensure they do not crash against Plymouth on Wednesday.

Pompey have to make sure they do the basics right to commit to everything that made them a formidable force against Daniel Farke’s men at the weekend.

Plymouth are scrapping for their lives and were victorious against a dominant Portsmouth side in the reverse fixture at Home Park earlier this season.

In a fixture dubbed the ‘Dockyard derby’ despite the seven-hour round trip between the two port cities, the games have always maintained an edge whether being contested in the Championship, League One or League Two.

Poole will again be named in the backline, likely alongside midfielder and captain Marlon Pack despite the recent signing of free agent Swedish international Alexander Milosevic, who now has international clearance to make his debut.
