Murphy gets 7/10, teammate flops at 3/10 – Portsmouth player ratings v Plymouth
Portsmouth were stunned on Wednesday night as Plymouth Argyle snatched their first Championship away win of the season at Fratton Park.
The 2-1 defeat for the Blues to Argyle (12 March) saw Mustapha Bundu and Ryan Hardie cast the crucial blows either side of the interval.
Adil Aouchiche hit a superb strike late on to halve the deficit, but Plymouth held on to hand the Blues an unwelcome loss.
It comes as a frustrating hangover for Portsmouth to lose to the bottom-placed side after beating league leaders Leeds United last Sunday.
Pompey News rates the displays of each Portsmouth player out of 10 from Fratton Park.

Nicolas Schmid – 4
While superb last weekend against Leeds, didn’t cover himself in glory for the second goal. Did make a good save early on from Hardie, however.
Zak Swanson – 5
Not at fault for either goal but nothing too inspiring, and struggled to get forward.
Regan Poole – 4
Not too bad, but was unable to prevent Plymouth breaking down the defence. Wasn’t very quick getting the ball upfield from the back.
Marlon Pack (off for Cohen Bramall 55′) – 3
Superb against Leeds but couldn’t replicate it against Argyle – he’s a temporary fix, after all. Gave the ball away and then was beaten by the run of Hardie for the second.
Connor Ogilvie – 4
Was dragged infield for the first goal and couldn’t get to Bundu quickly enough for his strike past Schmid.

Pack, Ritchie and Schmid drop off after Leeds displays
Andre Dozzell – 5
Was quiet in the midfield as opposed to previous displays.
Freddie Potts (off for Mark O’Mahony 62′) – 5
Won a few fouls to give Pompey a bit more control, but came out on the losing side of the battle with Houghton and Gyabi until he was substituted.
Matt Ritchie (off for Kaide Gordon 55′) – 3
Virtually anonymous, with no successful dribbles or crosses. No major defensive impact as it wasn’t really needed down his side. Possibly needs a rest.
Adil Aouchiche – 7
Scored a tremendous goal to give Pompey hope. Delivered crosses, won more duels than he lost and worked a few shots, more than most Pompey players did while in possession. Ironically better than he was against Leeds.
Portsmouth in the last three days | |
Portsmouth 1-0 Leeds (Bishop) | Portsmouth 1-2 Plymouth (Aouchiche; Bundu, Hardie) |
Murphy performance positive despite shock defeat
Josh Murphy – 7
The best Portsmouth player on the night carries on his own form, tried to make things happen and create chances, and had to get himself involved with his teammates not supplying him out wide enough.
Colby Bishop – 6
Had a couple of chances in the first half which could have swung the pendulum the other way and made it a different game.
Substitutes
Cohen Bramall (on for Marlon Pack 55′) – 6
Won the foul to draw the second yellow card, leading to the Aouchiche goal.
Kaide Gordon (on for Matt Ritchie 55′) – 6
Gave it his best, nice to see him out there for a bit longer this time. Wasn’t far away with an ambitious shot from the right flank.
Mark O’Mahony (on for Freddie Potts 62′) – 5
Another big step towards match sharpness.
