Preston North End v Portsmouth result predicted by supercomputer
Portsmouth will look to bounce back from their Plymouth Argyle defeat as they travel to Preston North End on Saturday.
Portsmouth were handed a shock defeat at home to last-placed Plymouth, leaving John Mousinho’s side 17th in the Championship table.
The South coast side entered their tie against Plymouth riding on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over league leaders Leeds United, but their momentum was brought to an abrupt end by Miron Muslic’s men.
Mustapha Bundu and Ryan Hardie scored for the Pilgrims in the first half, leaving Pompey shell-shocked and two goals down at half-time.
The hosts got one goal back in the 89th minute but it was too late to inspire a comeback.
Mousinho’s men will now regroup and travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End on Saturday (15 March).

Preston North End vs Portsmouth predicted by supercomputer
Portsmouth’s loss against Plymouth leaves them just six points from the drop zone, indicating that the job isn’t done yet for the season. If their inconsistent run of results continue, Portsmouth may have a relegation battle on their hands.
Preston North End drew against Sunderland in the midweek clash at the Stadium of Light. The draw has now left Lancashire club without a win in last six Championship games. Their last victory came against Norwich City back almost a month ago.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side are desperate to get back to winning ways and playing Portsmouth at home gives them a decent chance of securing all three points.
CLUB | PLD | POINTS |
17. Portsmouth | 37 | 42 |
18. Hull City | 37 | 40 |
19. Stoke City | 37 | 39 |
20. Oxford United | 37 | 39 |
21. Cardiff City | 37 | 36 |
22. Derby County | 37 | 35 |
23. Luton Town | 37 | 34 |
24. Plymouth Argyle | 37 | 33 |
Pompey are on a decent run of form themselves, winning four of their last six second-division fixtures. However, they have lost two of their last three fixtures and Portsmouth need to address some issues in the squad.
Opta’s supercomputer has predicted the result of this clash at Deepdale. As per the supercomputer, hosts Preston are the favourites to win this clash as they have been handed a 51.1 per cent chance to come out on top.
For Portsmouth, the supercomputer gives only a 24.1 per cent chance of grabbing all three points away from home.
There is a 24.9 per cent likelihood of a draw, meaning Portsmouth are definite underdogs and there’s a slightly greater chance of a draw than Portsmouth winning.

Pompey given a reality check
The loss to Plymouth is a reality check to Mousinho’s side that the Championship relegation battle is far from over.
The battle at the bottom end of the table is extremely tight as teams between 17th to 24th position are separated by nine points.
The bottom four are separated by just three points. Portsmouth are currently not in the drop zone but if their loss to Plymouth doesn’t act as a wakeup call, Pompey could well be in trouble in the business end of the season.
Mousinho’s side need to get consistent results to continue staying away from the drop zone and ensure Championship football for next season.
