Portsmouth ‘to seal Mark O’Mahony transfer’ after latest announcement
Portsmouth should sign Mark O’Mahony on a permanent transfer next summer after an announcement from Ireland Football.
Pompey signed the 20-year-old on loan from Brighton last summer, but injuries have hampered his game time this season.
O’Mahony returned from injury a few weeks back and scored as John Mousinho’s team beat Oxford United 2-0 away from home on 15 February.
The Irish youngster also came on as a substitute as the Hampshire outfit lost 2-1 to Plymouth at Fratton Park on Wednesday (12 March).

O’Mahony permanent Portsmouth transfer on cards
Mousinho relied heavily on O’Mahony at the start of the season, with the centre-forward featuring in nine of the opening 13 matches of the season.
An injury subsequently ruled the 20-year-old out for a considerable period before he made his return against Oxford at the Kassam Stadium.

Colby Bishop has been pivotal for Mousinho since returning from the sidelines after undergoing heart surgery in July 2024.
Callum Lang has also been influential at Fratton Park, leading the goalscoring charts at the Hampshire outfit.

O’Mahony included in Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad
O’Mahony has been included in Jim Crawford’s Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for the upcoming international break.
Portsmouth shared the 20-year-old’s inclusion in the Irish youth team on X (14 March).
Kusini Yengi and Christian Saydee have been underwhelming this season, showcasing the importance of having someone like O’Mahony in the squad.
Mousinho has steered Pompey to four wins in their last six Championship fixtures, increasing their hopes of avoiding the drop.
The Hampshire outfit seemed destined to go down to League One after winning just two of their opening 15 fixtures at the start of the campaign.
While O’Mahony hasn’t played as much as he would arguably have liked to, there’s still a long way to go in the season.
Mousinho’s team are 17th in the league table but are only seven points ahead of 22nd-place Derby County.
The Irish youngster will undoubtedly get more opportunities in the coming months, and if he can do well on the international stage, Pompey may be tempted to sign him permanently next summer if they avoid relegation.
