‘Connor Ogilvie let down at Portsmouth’ after what happened v Preston

Portsmouth defender Connor Ogilvie has every reason to be frustrated with the decision making in the defeat against Preston on Saturday.

Pompey travelled up north on 15 March and fell to their second defeat on the bounce despite a late Colby Bishop equaliser at Deepdale.

The Lilywhites stole all three points thanks to a winner from Stefan Thordarson, subjecting the south coast outfit to a huge blow.

The frustrating defeat could be put down to the defensive line but ultimately Oglivie has been let down by his manager in Yorkshire.

Ogilvie let down by John Mousinho v Preston

The 29-year-old has put in some superb performances as a full back at Fratton Park this season, proving why he deserves to start on a regular basis.

Particularly against Leeds United, the Englishman was excellent and played a key role behind securing a home win against the league leaders.

Without his impact in the back line, there is every chance that the likes of Manor Solomon would have had an easy afternoon’s work.

With that being said, it did come as a surprise to see Ogilvie operating as a centre half against Preston, especially with them playing five at the back.

This was done to allow Cohen Bramall to come back into the side, but it didn’t truly pay off as Mousinho may have hoped.

The addition of his fellow full back’s doggid attitude in forward and defensive areas would have been extremely useful and was missed at Deepdale.

Mousinho gets it wrong v Preston

It is positive to see the Pompey head coach take a risk and make a change, if they prove to work.

When they don’t pay off, like against Preston with Ogilvie, it can harm his side and that could prove to have a negative impact as time goes on.

The full back has shown why he is such a useful asset on the flank this campaign and as a result, playing him at the heart of defense made little sense.

Marlon Pack has been useful in that position and even Zak Swanson would have been a better option to help secure a positive result at Deepdale.
