John Mousinho gets it wrong as Yengi decision made in Portsmouth XI v Preston

John Mousinho has made a mistake regarding Kusini Yengi in his Portsmouth team to take on Preston North End.

Portsmouth have won four of their last six games in the Championship, which has lifted them seven points clear of the relegation zone.

However, they were beaten disappointingly last time out, losing 2-1 to the Championship’s bottom club Plymouth Argyle at Fratton Park on Wednesday 12 March.

Therefore, Mousinho will be keen to put things right against Preston at Deepdale on Saturday (15 March).

However, the Portsmouth boss has made that task all the more difficult after his latest team selection.

Mousinho makes Yengi mistake in Portsmouth XI v Preston

Portsmouth are already expected to lose at Preston if the Opta supercomputer is anything to go by.

And Mousinho’s team selection is unlikely to have boosted Pompey’s chances of victory in Lancashire. The 38-year-old has made three changes to the side which lost against Plymouth last time out.

One of those changes is likely to benefit the team, with Cohen Bramall replacing Connor Ogilvie. Meanwhile, Terry Devlin replaces Marlon Pack in defence.

However, it is the third and final change which could cause issues, as Yengi replaces Matt Ritchie.

Yengi has struggled for Portsmouth this season

While Ritchie no doubt needed to be replaced after his performance for Portsmouth against Plymouth, Yengi has only played 10 times in the Championship this season and is yet to find the back of the net in the competition.

Therefore, fans aren’t likely to be too thrilled by the Australian’s involvement.

Yengi has a point to prove at Portsmouth

After moments of brilliance in League One, fans had high hopes for Yengi heading into the Championship.

However, instead, it has been a season to forget for the striker, who has struggled with constant injury issues, failed to score or assist in the Championship and only made three starts in the competition this term.

As a result, this clash with Preston is important for the Portsmouth forward, who must now look to prove his worth in what remains of the season.
