Portsmouth caught in ‘Bizarre’ moment v Preston on Sky Sports
Portsmouth fell to a 2-1 loss to Preston North End on Saturday to ensure they are not yet fully clear of relegation danger.
John Mousinho‘s side have been on strange run on form that has seen them defeat Championship leaders Leeds United but lose to bottom dwellers Luton and Plymouth, before this loss to Preston.
With four points and four sides between them and the relegation zone, Pompey could be relegated to League One if something goes drastically wrong as the season comes to a close.

Portsmouth involved in ‘bizarre’ goal against Preston
In the 76th minute, Ryan Porteous opened the scoring for the hosts to put them in front with a goal that stunned reporter Nubaid Haroon.
The visitors fought back and Colby Bishop scored an equaliser in the 83rd minute, but Stefan Thordarson notched a winner for Preston with three minutes of normal time left.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (15 March, 16:32 pm), Haroon said: “It’s a really bizarre goal.
“It’s come forward as it’s headered across the box it’s missed six or seven players, flicked on by Hughes and at the back post comes Ryan Porteous.
“The one player for Preston, despite being a defender, who has been progressive. He has got the goal that he deserves.”

Pompey need to get back to winning ways in Championship
The Fratton Park outfit need to start winning again regularly after two losses in their last three league matches.
The 1-0 win over Leeds was a huge result but losses to Luton and Plymouth have reduced its impact in the grand scheme of things.
Team | Played | GD | Points |
17. Portsmouth | 38 | -15 | 42 |
18. Oxford United | 38 | -16 | 42 |
19. Hull | 38 | -8 | 41 |
20. Stoke | 38 | -14 | 39 |
21. Cardiff | 38 | -20 | 39 |
22. Derby County | 38 | -11 | 38 |
They are heading back towards the drop zone with teams around them picking up points and could find themselves in serious danger if results do not improve in the near future.
Although they were expected to lose against the Deepdale outfit, with a supercomputer predicting a home win, the result will be a concern given the state of the relegation battle in the second tier.
If Pompey are dragged back in the survival race it will be a huge shame given the progress that Mousinho has made recently, but it would not be his fault, given the brutal injury list on the South Coast at the moment.
A mark of around 53 points usually guarantees safety in the second tier, meaning that they would need 11 points from their final eight matches to be safe.
But the conclusion will be more nervy that it would have been had they defeated Preston.
