Callum Lang has two Portsmouth teammates cooking dinner for him

Portsmouth players who have not received international call-ups are currently out of action until the club’s next match on 29 March.

Pompey face Blackburn at the end of the month and will be looking to bounce back from the consecutive defeats they suffered at the hands of Plymouth and Preston.

Things were looking up for John Mousinho’s side when they beat Leeds on 9 March to pull themselves 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

But the Fratton Park side are now just four points above the bottom three with eight Championship games left to play.

Portsmouth star Callum Lang has been ruled out of the rest of the season through injury, but he remains in high spirits despite not making an appearance since February 15.

Lang was one of Portsmouth’s best players before suffering an injury

On Wednesday 19 March, he posted a picture on his Instagram story of teammates Christian Saydee and Zak Swanson preparing food in his kitchen, which he captioned: “Chefs round to cook for me.”

Before his injury, Lang was a real asset for Mousinho’s men and his goal-scoring exploits helped steer his side clear of trouble.

Lang’s injury has come as a hindrance to Mousinho

Portsmouth desperately want to avoid making an unwanted return to League One, but that could be the reality they face if they do not manage to turn their form around once more.

It would be fair to say that Pompey’s survival credentials would be greater if Lang had not suffered an injury, as he performed admirably well this term.

He is still Portsmouth’s top scorer in the Championship this season, having notched a return of 10 goals and two assists in 29 second-tier outings.

His devastating ability in the final third was epitomised when he scored all four goals during Pompey’s emphatic 4-1 triumph over Coventry back in December.

However, while Mousinho and Co are still striving to retain their Championship status, they will have to navigate the rest of their relegation battle without Lang, who could have proven to be a difference-maker throughout the latter stages of the season.
