Portsmouth ‘to make huge profit’ on Terry Devlin after what’s happened

Terry Devlin could soon become a household name in English football after his rapid progression at Portsmouth.

The 21-year-old signed for Pompey in 2023 and has since established himself as an important player in John Mousinho’s first-team squad.

Devlin recently signed a new contract at Fratton Park, potentially keeping him at Portsmouth until the summer of 2028.

Playing a big part in Mousinho’s plans has led to his Northern Ireland debut in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland in a friendly fixture at Windsor Park on Friday (21 March).

Devlin to attract transfer attention after Northern Ireland debut

While the youngster isn’t a regular starter under Mousinho, he will undoubtedly be one if he continues developing.

Devlin’s record for Portsmouth this season.

The 21-year-old’s versatility has come in handy at Portsmouth, with the English manager deploying him primarily at right-back this season instead of midfield.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see more established Championship or Premier League teams wanting to sign Devlin from Pompey for a considerable transfer fee in the coming years.

Mousinho needs to involve Devlin more after international debut

Portsmouth are aiming to survive relegation from the Championship and will need to be at their best in the final games of the season to do so.

Mousinho started Devlin in the loss to Preston at Deepdale on Saturday (15 March), and the right-back was one of the better players on the pitch for Pompey.

The Hampshire outfit are four points ahead of the drop zone and can’t afford to drop any more points with a challenging period coming up after the international break.

Michael O’Neill’s faith in Devlin with Northern Ireland should encourage Mousinho to rely on the 21-year-old in the campaign’s final stretch.

Zak Swanson has been the first-choice right-back at Portsmouth in recent months, but the English manager can undoubtedly find a way to play the Northern Irish star in his team as well.

If Pompey get relegated, teams in the Championship will definitely look to raid them, with Devlin a potentially attractive prospect.

Championship survival is needed for the Hampshire outfit to make progress and try and establish themselves in the second tier before making a push for the Premier League.

Devlin could play a critical role in Portsmouth’s success in the coming years, allowing them to make a huge profit from his eventual big-money transfer.
