Mousinho has ‘obvious Portsmouth transfer call’ amid no-brainer Potts decision

John Mousinho may already be planning for the summer transfer window as Portsmouth aim to avoid Championship relegation.

Pompey are 17th in the Championship table and will survive the drop if results go their way in the last eight fixtures of the season.

The Hampshire outfit are four points ahead of 22nd-place Derby County in the league and will be confident of retaining their spot in the second-tier English football for next season.

Mousinho should be confident of Portsmouth’s chances and must have a plan in place ahead of next summer to strengthen his squad further.

Freddie Potts transfer decision a no-brainer at Portsmouth

Freddie Potts has been a key player at Fratton Park this season and has formed an impressive partnership with Andre Dozzell.

Both midfielders came last summer, but while Dozzell signed on a permanent transfer from QPR, Potts arrived on a season-long loan from West Ham United.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder had spent the previous campaign at Wycombe Wanderers, where Mousinho undoubtedly got a good look at him.

It wasn’t surprising to see the English manager sign the youngster from the Hammers after his impressive stint in League One.

Fratton Park must push for Potts return next summer

Potts started for Pompey as they lost 2-1 to Preston North End in the Championship on 15 March, dropping valuable points.

The Hampshire outfit have had some head-scratching results since beating Leeds United 1-0 at Fratton Park on 9 March.

Portsmouth suffered defeat at the hands of Plymouth Argyle before their trip to Deepdale, which worsened their standing in the relegation battle.

After the international break, Pompey will take on Blackburn Rover at home on 29 March, which could prove to be a significant fixture for the hosts.

A loss against the Lancashire outfit could see the gap between the relegation zone and Portsmouth get narrow, which will only add to the fans’ nerves in the final months of the season.

No matter what prospects lie ahead for the Hampshire side, Potts must be re-signed on loan or a permanent transfer if possible.

The English midfielder has proven he can be an influential figure in Pompey’s midfield for years to come, and they could offer him a chance to further develop in English football.
