Portsmouth fans clash over Kusini Yengi news – ‘Get rid’, ‘Nonsense’

Portsmouth supporters have reacted with frustration to the news Kusini Yengi has picked up an injury on international duty.

Yengi has been struck down while with Australia after a frustrating season at Fratton Park littered with injury difficulties.

The 26-year-old did not feature in the Socceroos’ 5-1 thrashing of Indonesia, neither will he be available to face China this week before the squad return to their clubs across the globe.

Yengi slammed for ‘upsetting’ Pompey fans as others defend striker

John Mousinho will not have been eager on the idea of Yengi’s latest trip 10,000 miles Down Under, but such is the nature with Australians at Fratton Park.

However, what could have been a chance to restore confidence and a goalscoring touch has now become yet another injury to add to the list, after Yengi had started in the last outing at Preston (15 March).

Yengi‘s contract expires in the summer and while Portsmouth do have an option to extend it for another year, some Blues fans are less than enthusiastic on the idea, citing unreliability.

One matter that certainly divides the Fratton faithful right now is what they and Yengi decide is next.

However, other Blues on X have defended Yengi and maintained faith with both he and Mousinho to turn it around after a largely forgettable first campaign at Championship level for the striker.

Portsmouth have decision to make on Aussie star

Whatever Portsmouth decide to do, there will be thousands of supporters who disagree due to the wide spectrum of opinion over Yengi.

A player who first took to English football very well, the Australian frontman has stalled this year thanks in huge part to his injury issues, when it looked initially like Mousinho would give him the nod.

Yengi is out of contract this summer but Pompey hold an option

Had Yengi been fit for the opening weekend draw at Leeds United and subsequently stayed in the side after being handed the number 10 jersey, this could have been a conversation around Colby Bishop all these months down the line.

But the number nine is loving life in the Championship, has signed a new contract and is going from strength to strength, while a frustrated Yengi awaits the proper opportunity of a sustained run of fitness and form.
