Declan Rice reacts as Portsmouth ace agrees terms

Portsmouth have made wholesale changes to their squad in the last year, with as many as 24 players arriving at Fratton Park.

Pompey chiefs were extremely busy during both the transfer windows of the 2024-25 season as they pushed to sign players who could help them keep their Championship status intact.

However, Portsmouth are struggling as they sit 17th in the Championship table with eight games to go, and the 17th to 22nd positioned teams are separated by just four points.

Despite Pompey’s poor season, some players have excelled under Mousinho, with Freddie Potts being one of them.

Potts signs new West Ham contract

The 21-year-old arrived at Fratton Park on a loan deal from West Ham United and has impressed the Portsmouth faithful with his all-round performances.

In 29 appearances, the Englishman has scored once and assisted four times while executing his defensive duties to near perfection.

Given his impressive record and displays, Mousinho would have wanted to keep Potts beyond this season, but it is unlikely, as Potts has now signed a new deal with the Hammers.

Mousinho must make harsh decisions against Blackburn

Pompey faces Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, aiming to return to winning ways after two back-to-back losses to Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle.

While Potts’ inclusion in the team is almost a given, Mousinho must make some harsh but needed decisions regarding team selection.

Kusini Yengi, who started against Preston, was unimpressive and failed to lead Portsmouth’s attack effectively.

Yengi was taken off in the second half as he did not take his chances and it cost them dearly as Pompey lost 2-1 to Preston. With Mousinho’s side just four points above the drop zone, the 38-year-old must drop Yengi from the attack.

Colby Bishop has to lead the frontline, and if needed, Yengi can come on as a substitute.
