Freddie Potts transfer ‘dream on’ at Portsmouth despite West Ham development
John Mousinho would love to have Freddie Potts back at Portsmouth next season as he edges closer to returning to West Ham United.
Portsmouth signed Potts on a season-long loan deal from West Ham last summer after an impressive spell at Wycombe Wanderers last term.
It has proven to be a shrewd signing for Pompey, with the 21-year-old bagging one goal and four assists in 29 Championship appearances on top of his defensive midfield duties.

Potts signs new deal at West Ham
Potts has started 27 of Portsmouth’s 29 league games and there is no doubt that Mousinho would want him back for at least another season or on a permanent transfer.
However, those hopes suffered a major blow after it emerged on Monday (24 March) that the midfielder has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the London Stadium.

ExWHUEmployee reported via the West Ham Way website that Mark Noble played a key role in tying him down to a new deal with the East London outfit.
That suggests the Irons see a future for Potts at the London Stadium, meaning Pompey may have to curb their hopes of taking him back at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth can still dream of Potts twist
However, that is not to say that Portsmouth have no chance of re-signing Potts and must give up such hopes.
In fact, there are no guarantees that Graham Potter would want to keep the defensive midfielder in his ranks next season.
Revealing details of Potts’ new deal, a senior West Ham source told Claret & Hugh (24 March) that Potts still needs to ‘improve’ and will be ‘assessed’ during pre-season.
Therefore, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he is sent out on another loan this summer, with Portsmouth likely viewed as a potential destination.
It is possible that West Ham tied Potts down to a new deal to preserve his value and avoid losing him for free as he was set to enter the final year of his contract at the London Stadium.
That is why Pompey can still dream of re-signing Potts.
