Abu Kamara reacts to big Portsmouth star news

Abu Kamara is a fondly remembered figure at Portsmouth given his impact in getting the side promoted from League One last season.

Having since moved to Hull City in a permanent switch, he has scored five goals and made four assists for the Tigers in all competitions, with the two clubs survival rivals this campaign.

With Pompey hosting Hull at Fratton Park in the final fixture of the Championship season (3 May), Kamara will make his return to the South Coast in what could be a massive contest – but it is clear from social media he remains very close with his former Blues teammates.

Kamara reacts to international news

Kamara landed himself in hot water with Hull earlier this season for a mere congratulatory comment on Portsmouth star Paddy Lane’s Instagram post back in January, given the two clubs are directly competing against one another.

It was an overreaction on the Tigers’ part in hindsight, after a shy Kamara was forced to sit alongside manager Ruben Selles and issue an on-screen apology for his perceived naivety. It was uncomfortable viewing.

Many of a Pompey persuasion of course had their former loanee’s back, and the young winger has not hesitated to hand his well-wishes to another of his former Fratton pals – this time Terry Devlin.

Devlin has enjoyed a wonderful season of progress and made his long-awaited Northern Ireland debut in the recent international break, entering as a substitute against Switzerland at Windsor Park (21 March) before starting against Sweden in Stockholm (25 March).

The fast-becoming utility man posted his proud feeling on Instagram (26 March) and was congratulated by many current and former teammates, with Kamara posting a red love heart emoji to show his support.

Plenty of other Blues stars weighed in, with Callum Lang commenting: “[You] deserve it, boss,” while sidelined Pompey ace Ibane Bowat said: “Well done, son”.

Kusini Yengi, who himself was on international duty with Australia but picked up an injury, left a comment for Devlin: “Congrats, lad”, with Colby Bishop stating: “Proud”.

Devlin could play anywhere for Portsmouth v Blackburn

A key reason why Michael O’Neill recognised and called up Devlin is his versatility, having played at right-back, central midfield and in the 10 role for Portsmouth this season to excellent effect.

The 21-year-old started in defence last time out against Preston and could continue there, or alternatively be moved further up the pitch by John Mousinho.

In a Championship side, that resourcefulness is vital. Callum Styles at West Bromwich Albion; Luke O’Nien at Sunderland; Callum Paterson at Sheffield Wednesday. Every good side needs a player like that in their squad who can slot in anywhere, and Devlin has firmly stepped up to the plate.
