Christian Saydee handed chance to secure Portsmouth future after Mousinho update
Portsmouth return to Championship action on Saturday as they welcome Blackburn Rovers to Fratton Park.
John Mousinho will be hoping his side can improve on their pre-international break form after losing their last two league games.
The break has given the boss the opportunity to get players fit again, though, which should give Pompey a boost as they enter a crucial point in the campaign.

Mousinho provides Christian Saydee update
Despite an overall disappointing campaign, Portsmouth had been showing signs that they could turn their fortunes around and survive relegation from the Championship this season.
Although Pompey have won two of their last five games, having also lost two, it shows the inconsistencies that run throughout the team.
Mousinho’s men do sit five places above the relegation zone, but only four points clear, with the battle against the drop looking likely to go to the wire.
Team | Position | Goal Difference | Points |
Portsmouth | 17 | -15 | 42 |
Oxford United | 18 | -16 | 42 |
Hull City | 19 | -8 | 41 |
Stoke City | 20 | -14 | 39 |
Cardiff City | 21 | -20 | 39 |
Derby County | 22 | -11 | 38 |
Christian Saydee was unavailable for his side’s last three games, but Mousinho says the forward is back in full training, meaning he could be available for the clash against Blackburn.

Saydee has the opportunity to show what he can do at Portsmouth
Saydee may have made 25 Championship appearances for Portsmouth this season, but only nine of those have been from the starting line-up.
Furthermore, the attacker has scored just two goals, representing the troubles faced at Fratton Park throughout the campaign.
As a result, it’s not surprising that Saydee was attracting interest from League One clubs back in the winter transfer window, and a departure would be on the cards if a replacement could be found.
Nothing materialised and the forward remained on the South Coast, but it certainly represents that his club may feel as though he is not up to the standards needed to be a second-tier club.
Furthermore, with his contract expiring in 2026, if Portsmouth do feel like they want the chance to cash in, this summer will be the time to do so.
If Portsmouth can retain their place in the Championship, Mousinho will have plenty of work to do to make things more comfortable for his side next season, and players will have to be axed.
It’s clear his boss sees the potential there, but he cannot afford to sit waiting for him to come good if he wants to bring success to Fratton Park.
Therefore, Saydee needs to take his opportunity now that he is fit again to show what he can bring to the fold and secure his future as an asset at Portsmouth rather than finding himself being moved on.
