Mousinho has platform to build on at Portsmouth
Relegation was a real concern after Pompey won just two of their first 15 matches in the league, but they have turned things around.
They had won four in five matches between 11 February and 9 March, including a stunning victory over then league leaders Leeds United, but concerns arose when they fell to defeats against Plymouth and Preston before the international break.
That has given Mousinho time to rethink his approach, and it appears to have paid off with a fantastic win over the Lancashire outfit, basically securing Pompey’s second-tier status, barring a late catastrophe.
The road to the Premier League still seems very far away, but Mousinho will take confidence from how his side has fought against the obstacles that they have faced, and they can finish the season strongly and take momentum into next season.
