‘Mousinho could cost Portsmouth in summer window’ after what happened v Blackburn

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho may have harmed his side’s pull in the summer window after the Blackburn Rovers win.

Pompey welcomed Valerien Ismael’s men to Fratton Park on Saturday (29 March) and secured an all-important 1-0 win.

It was an early strike from Josh Murphy that proved to be the difference as the south coast outfit managed to see out a much-needed three points.

The form of the winger and the selection choices of Mousinho could ultimately prove to have a negative impact moving into the summer.

Kaide Gordon treatment could damage Portsmouth

No Pompey fan would argue with the selection of Murphy on the flank considering how excellent he has been since joining from Oxford United.

It is the role on the opposite flank which has proved to be up for grabs but was most recently handed to Matt Ritchie despite a difficult day’s work at Fratton Park.

This saw Liverpool loanee Gordon start and finish the clash on the bench as he was an unused substitute for the fifth time since signing.

This is unlikely to go down well with the Premier League leaders who will have hopes of the 20-year-old securing regular minutes in the second tier.

It is safe to say that the English winger hasn’t secured that in PO4, making just one start since departing Norwich City in the winter.

Mousinho clearly hasn’t been impressed by the youngster and doesn’t trust him to feature regularly, but this could hurt his side in the summer.

Mousinho Gordon snub seen as transfer example

If Pompey go out in search of a high-profile loan of a young player in the summer, the parent club may be concerned with the treatment of Gordon.

Considering an older player like Ritchie has been favoured, it doesn’t bode well for other clubs’ best young talent in terms of minutes.

This could represent a blow for Mousinho, but he will ultimately have himself to blame for not trusting Gordon and handing him a chance in the second tier.

With a clash against Millwall coming up, the English head coach could change his ways, but it will be interesting to see how many minutes the youngster can accrue.
