West Ham loanee Potts makes Portsmouth transfer admission – ‘Massive’

Freddie Potts has provided some news for Portsmouth fans regarding his loan spell at Fratton Park.

The 21-year-old joined Pompey during the last summer transfer window on a season-long loan from West Ham United in a bid to gain more regular playing time to develop his career.

The midfielder previously made two appearances for the Hammers, with both of them coming from the bench during their Europa Conference League campaign in 2022-23.

Potts has been a regular in John Mousinho’s team as the Blues boss has backed the West Ham loanee to perform at the highest level for him, and his performances have won over the fans during his tenure.

Freddie Potts addresses his Portsmouth future

Potts has been a vital player for Pompey this season, which is why there were concerns about the fact he signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with West Ham last week to commit his future to the Irons.

His contract news has led to fans giving up on the possibility of Potts returning next season for a further loan, but he hasn’t ruled that out.

Potts told The News (1 April): “I have developed true feelings for the club. I want this club to stay up – this is where it deserves to be and you see how much it means to the fans. Now I will always have that passion for Pompey.

“Wherever I am next year, I hope they still do well, because I know that they will. You develop that connection with the fanbase and the club.

“Coming back next year is not my decision to make, that’s obviously down to West Ham and I’m going to give it my all at West Ham during pre-season, giving it my best chance.”

Potts went on to describe Portsmouth as a “massive” club and admitted you can “never say never” regarding a possible return to Fratton Park.

Portsmouth will be focused on survival in Championship

Even though the summer transfer window is just around the corner and plans have to be made about possible signings, the focus right now is simply on Portsmouth retaining their Championship status.

Pompey have pushed away from the relegation zone recently, mainly due to their impressive home form at Fratton Park – which is the best in the division for 2025.

However, the job isn’t done for Portsmouth, and even though they are seven points away from the bottom three, there will be a need to put together a string of results to wrap up the campaign.
