Millwall v Portsmouth: Fans react to ‘disgusting’ Tanganga chants

Portsmouth’s encounter with Millwall brought plenty of rivalry to The Den, but also saw Pompey fans aim a chant towards Japhet Tanganga.

Portsmouth fell to a late 2-1 defeat to Millwall, with the Blues failing to build on their previous 1-0 victory against Blackburn.

Consistency has been hard to come by for Pompey this season, with John Mousinho’s side looking capable of beating anyone one week, while looking somewhat lost the next.

However, it wasn’t the performance on the pitch that people were talking about, but rather an incident off the ball which sparked the travelling support into a song.

Tanganga injury leads to Portsmouth chants

As always in English football, but especially in the Championship, a clash between two sides can very quickly turn into a 90-minute rivalry, which is exactly what happened for Portsmouth against Millwall.

There were plenty of heated moments on the pitch, though one incident led to Tanganga lying on the floor with what was later confirmed to be an arm injury.

Alex Neil was forced into a substitution after just 42 minutes, which led to the travelling support aiming a handful of chants at the former Tottenham defender.

Mousinho has a big task on his hands at Portsmouth

Portsmouth are not safe from relegation yet this season, and unless they can put performances like the one against Millwall behind them, there is a chance they won’t be until the very last game of the campaign.

Mousinho needs to find a way to get his side playing at their best over a period of time, as opposed to once every few weeks, which has been the case as of late.

Portsmouth have failed to find any real consistency this season.

Wins like the one against Leeds United have been completely overshadowed by defeats in games such as this one, and Mousinho needs to find the remedy to get his team performing consistently across all of their remaining encounters.

With just six games to be played, Pompey sit four points clear of the bottom three, but as ever with the Championship, that gap can change in an instant.
