Mousinho allegation to be ‘investigated by police’ after Millwall incident – Exclusive
Millwall’s win over Portsmouth on Saturday could be marred by a police investigation.
The Den erupted in the 87th minute when Mihailo Ivanovic scored his second goal of the game to secure a 2-1 win over Pompey that puts the London club back in Championship play-off contention.
Portsmouth, on the other hand, were unable to move themselves away from the relegation zone with just four points now separating them and 22nd-placed Cardiff.
John Mousinho bemoaned his side’s lack of focus in the closing stages of their trip to The Den while also making serious allegations that could now be looked into by the Metropolitan Police.
Mousinho hits out at Millwall response to alleged abuse
Keith Hackett believes footballing authorities – as well as the police – must examine an incident of alleged discriminatory abuse coming from home fans at The Den on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Mousinho revealed he spoke to the referee Ben Toner and fourth official Alan Dale due to “discriminatory language coming from behind the dug-out”.
Former PGMOL general manager Hackett has revealed the protocol that should have been enforced after Mousinho’s allegations.
Opponent | Date |
Coventry (A) | 9 April |
Derby (H) | 12 April |
Norwich (A) | 18 April |
Watford (H) | 21 April |
Sheffield Wednesday (A) | 26 April |
Hull (H) | 3 May |
However, the ex-referee also reckons a full investigation could be required as a result of Mousinho’s claims.
“Mousinho’s allegations must be investigated by the police and the football authorities,” Hackett told Pompey News.
“If it had been brought to the attention of the referee through the fourth official, then the game would have been stopped and a discussion would have taken place with the ground controller, chief steward and police.
“This may well have resulted in a stadium announcement issuing a warning, plus increased stewarding of the area of the stadium that is the area of concern.”

Millwall fans make headlines yet again
Millwall earned a massive three points on the pitch, but unfortunately for their players, coaches and behind-the-scenes staff, the shine might be taken off of it thanks to the allegations of incidents in stands.
For such a small club tucked away in South East London, their fans don’t half generate a lot of news stories.
Hopefully this is cleared up soon, and if anyone is found guilty of what they’ve been alleged of, they’re banned from attending football matches.
