Portsmouth relegation chances predicted by supercomputer after Millwall loss

Portsmouth suffered defeat against Millwall on Saturday afternoon, with their survival hopes taking a hit as a result.

John Mousinho’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Millwall on their most recent outing, with Andre Dozzell’s goal doing nothing but spurring the hosts on to score their second of the game with just minutes to go.

Portsmouth have had a mixed campaign, with results like the one against Leeds United often overshadowed by defeats against the teams around them, with the one at The Den showcasing a performance that has been on display far too many times.

The Blues lacked any real creativity in the clash, and will need to improve significantly to steer further clear of relegation with just six games to go.

Mousinho will be less than pleased with his side’s performance

Portsmouth were simply not at the races against Millwall, who were deserving of the three points they picked up at Pompey’s expense.

Sitting in 17th, the Blues look fairly safe, but just four points separate them from the bottom three, and according to the latest Opta supercomputer prediction, little is expected to change.

Portsmouth have failed to find any real consistency this season.

Pompey are forecasted to finish 17th on 52 points, which would see them finish five points above a drop zone consisting of Cardiff City, Luton and Plymouth.

With a 4.52 per cent chance of relegation, Portsmouth look rather likely to survive another campaign in the Championship, though they must remain wary of potential twists along the way.

Portsmouth can’t afford to rest on their laurels

Until safety is confirmed, Portsmouth need to enter each remaining fixture as if it were a cup final, something they failed to do against the Lions.

In and out of possession, the performance was lacklustre, and if that is replicated, there is a chance that Pompey will end up embroiled in the race to stay up once again.

Championship football offers you no guarantee, and Pompey need to be aware of that ahead of the final six games of the season.
