Portsmouth fans in hysterics after major Southampton development
Portsmouth supporters are taking great pleasure in teasing their local rivals, Southampton, after a major development on Sunday.
John Mousinho’s side still have plenty of work to do if they want to maintain their place in the Championship next season.
After a run of four wins from six games seemed to have lifted them out of a potential relegation dogfight, three defeats from their last four has dragged the South Coast club right back into the mix.
Pompey’s latest defeat came at the hands of Millwall as they were beaten 2-1 by the Lions at the Den on Saturday (5 April).
It was a disappointing day for Portsmouth on and off the pitch, with Keith Hackett exclusively revealing to Pompey News that allegations made by Mousinho are likely to be investigated by the police.
However, the spirits of supporters at Fratton Park appear to have been lifted after what happened to their local rivals Southampton on 6 April.

Portsmouth fans in hysterics after Southampton relegation
It has been a miserable season for Portsmouth’s rivals Southampton in the Premier League.
And after their 3-1 defeat against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (6 April), the Saints have officially been relegated from the Premier League earlier than any other team in the history of the competition.
Premier League 2024/25 | Position | Points | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost |
Southampton | 20th | 10 | 31 | 2 | 4 | 25 |
And Portsmouth fans have taken to X to express their delight and aim swipes at their neighbours, with plenty relishing a potential meeting next season, despite Pompey not yet securing Championship status themselves.
Portsmouth have motivation to remain in the Championship
Portsmouth’s players should have already been motivated to stay up this season.
However, in case any extra encouragement was needed, the opportunity to play two league derbies with Southampton should be more than enough to motivate Mousinho and his players to avoid relegation.
Should Portsmouth stay up, plenty of fans will be circling the dates of their two matches with Southampton next season when the fixtures are announced.
