Frank Lampard accused of shock deliberate ploy to miss Coventry v Portsmouth

Frank Lampard will not be on the touchline for the game between Coventry City and Portsmouth on Wednesday.

The Blues will make the trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena in midweek for their latest fixture in a game that features two teams at opposite ends of the table.

Lampard’s side are pushing to secure a position in the playoffs at the end of the season as they aim for promotion to the Premier League following their excellent transformation under the former Chelsea boss.

Meanwhile, Pompey are fighting for survival in the second tier of English football as they sit just four points above the relegation zone.

Frank Lampard won’t be watching his team

The pressure on the touchline will be immense for John Mousinho, as there is very little margin for error with Portsmouth’s remaining fixtures this season.

However, Mousinho won’t have to deal with any potential mind games from the Coventry boss as Lampard is suspended for this game.

The former England international was sent off in the aftermath of Coventry’s fixture against Burnley on Saturday (5 April) after he argued with the referee about decisions he didn’t agree with.

Lampard was shown a straight red card as he started walking to applaud the fans, and that will result in him having to watch this one from a different location, unable to impact his team as he would normally like.

It’s a slight advantage for Portsmouth heading into this game as it provides Mousinho with a more direct approach in comparison to his counterpart.

Fans believe Lampard is playing tricks

Lampard’s red card seemed to just come from a moment of rage from the Coventry manager, where he was unable to restrain his emotions about what he’d seen in the game.

However, fans of his own club have accused him of having an ulterior motive in that moment, as his red card will force the entire game to be investigated as per the rules, with supporters believing Lampard did it on purpose to get the game highlighted.

The situation has left Coventry fans with mixed feelings, too, as some enjoyed seeing that level of passion, while others think it might be a major mistake.
