Lampard set to be without four players for Coventry v Portsmouth

Portsmouth travel to Coventry on Wednesday amid their quest to remain in the Championship.

Matters were looking up for Pompey when they beat Blackburn 1-0 on 29 March, securing their second win in three home games.

However, John Mousinho’s men have been woeful on their travels this term and suffered another away defeat when they were beaten 2-1 by Millwall on Saturday.

Portsmouth are now just four points above the relegation zone, and may need to earn at least a point against play-off chasers Coventry this Wednesday.

Coventry set to be without Thomas-Asante and three others against Portsmouth

Frank Lampards’s Coventry have slipped out of the playoffs courtesy of back-to-back defeats at the hands of Sheffield United and Burnley.

The Sky Blues will be determined to beat Pompey, but Lampard’s squad have been hit by injuries.

Portsmouth are on bad form away from home

According to the Coventry Telegraph, Sky Blues striker Norman Basette has suffered a knee injury, and his return date is currently unknown.

Meanwhile, Coventry will also be without the services of goalkeeper Oliver Dovin, courtesy of an ACL injury, while Brandon Thomas-Asante and Josh Eccles are nursing pelvis and calf problems respectively.

Beating Coventry would be a huge result for Pompey in survival bid

The Fratton Park faithful may be pleased to hear that the Coventry squad has encountered injury problems, as the likes of Eccles and Thomas-Asante boast the ability to hurt Pompey.

However, Wednesday’s trip to the West Midlands will be a difficult task for Portsmouth, who have suffered a whopping 14 defeats on their travels in the Championship this term.

Mousinho’s men have won just two away games this season, while their last victory on the road came back in February, when they beat Oxford 2-0 thanks to goals from Andre Dozell and Mark O’Mahony.

Wednesday would be the perfect time for Pompey to turn their away form around, as they look to ensure that they will remain in the Championship ahead of next term.

Coventry are a good side who are still just one point and one place below the playoffs, but they have now lost three of their last four games, so Portsmouth could be facing Lampard’s men at a favourable time.
